Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi has set the stage for his 14 July visit to Washington D.C. with a series of energy deals with US companies and a high-profile anti-corruption campaign. Iraq’s relations with Iran remain a major US concern, but Mr Zaidi hopes these initiatives will convince the Trump administration to look the other way (MEES, 22 May).

Mr Zaidi’s goal is to move bilateral relations “from a phase of security cooperation to a sustainable economic partnership,” he told Sky News Arabia last week.
