Bahrain’s state firm Bapco Energies is approaching the completion of the long-awaited upgrade to its 267,000 b/d Sitra refinery. Once complete, the $7bn Bapco Modernization Program (BMP) will not only provide it with more refined products to export, it will also open up the possibility of running on a more diverse crude slate.

This week, Bapco Energies Chief Strategies Officer Alexander van Veldhoven told the Asia Pacific Petroleum Conference (APPEC) in Singapore that the company expects to commission the expansion project next quarter. “We are in the very last phase of that program. Most units are up and running, and we are kind of getting close to commissioning the last units in the refinery,” he says according to Reuters. (CONTINUED - 698 WORDS)
