France’s Technip Energies revealed in its 30 April investor call that Bahrain’s Sitra refinery “suffered permanent damage” from a 5 March attack. The firm was finalizing a $7bn expansion and modernization project to increase the refinery’s capacity from 267,000 b/d to 405,000 b/d. “We were actually handing over the facility to the client,” said CEO Arnaud Pieton, but now “it’s about assessing the situation and assessing how to actually allow the repairs and the client to resume with the work.” The attack caused damage to two CDUs with a combined capacity of 173,000 b/d (MEES, 6 March).
