Gasoline consumption hit a new daily record during the recent Iranian New Year holiday, when drivers take to the road and the country’s fuel distribution system feels the strain. The 152mn l/d (955,000 b/d) record on 19 March came a day before the beginning of the 1403 calendar year (2024/25), and was 8mn l/d (50,000 b/d) more than year-ago levels according to Jalil Salari, the Oil Ministry’s Deputy for Refining Affairs.

For the year as a whole, demand in 2023/24 jumped to 119mn l/d (748,000 b/d), up from approximately 115mn l/d (723,000 b/d) according to National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Co (NIORDC) figures. (CONTINUED - 1085 WORDS)
