Back in 2019, Oman submitted its first emission reduction plan to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change as part of its ratification of the 2015 Paris Agreement. That 2015 agreement called for countries to submit reports known as “nationally determined contributions” (NDCs) setting out their national emissions reduction plans.

Oman’s first NDC in 2019 featured very modest emission reduction goals. Under the plan overall greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions would continue to rise out to 2030 with mitigation measures only slowing the rate of increase by 2% versus a business-as-usual scenario. (CONTINUED - 958 WORDS)
