Oman state offtaker Nama Power and Water Procurement (Nama PWP) has released a request for proposals for a 95-100MW waste-to-energy project, the country’s first. It estimates the $1bn project will use 3,000 t/d of municipal solid waste to produce 757GWh each year once online in 2Q 2031.
“The Waste-to-Energy Project is a landmark initiative in the Sultanate of Oman’s transition toward a more diversified and sustainable energy mix,” says Nama Chief Energy Transition Officer Abdullah al-Sawafi. “From a grid operations standpoint, introducing a stable and dispatchable energy source will enhance system reliability and support the broader integration of variable renewable resources such as solar and wind,” he adds.
