Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has submitted a proposal to the central government in Baghdad in a bid to resolve the ongoing crisis sparked by February’s ruling by Iraq’s Federal Supreme Court (MEES, 18 February) that Kurdistan’s oil and gas sector is unconstitutional.

While the initiative is a welcome development, ultimately a resolution is unlikely to be reached until a new federal government is formed given that the dispute has become a political tool (MEES, 10 June). (CONTINUED - 2355 WORDS)
