Europe’s growing gas needs have seen a flurry of visits to the Middle East by high-ranking officials in recent months looking to secure LNG.

Germany’s Uniper was among utilities involved in discussions to procure Qatari LNG during a September Gulf tour by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz (MEES, 30 September). And this week Uniper signed an MoU closer to home, which would see key Israeli gas producer NewMed Energy supply Germany from its 45.34% share of output from Israel’s 22.7tcf Leviathan field.
