Oman’s state-led power transmission firm OETC this week signed several agreements valued at 183mn riyals ($476mn) for phase-1 of its Rabt project that will kick off a major overhaul of Oman’s electricity grid.

Phase-1 will connect the primary Main Interconnected System (MIS) which supplies the capital Muscat and northern Oman with the rural Tanweer network in the al-Wusta region in central Oman as well as with the separate transmission grids of Shell-led state oil firm Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) which operates Oman’s massive 650,000 b/d Block 6, as well as the Special Economic Zone at Duqm.
