On 1 February, the GCC Interconnection Authority (GCCIA) announced the start of work on a $700bn project to directly connect Oman to the GCCIA grid. It entails a 400kV line between Ibri in northern Oman and Silaa in Abu Dhabi, boosting the total transfer capability between Oman and the GCCIA networks to 1.6GW. The project will be complete in late 2027 with key contracts for the construction of the interconnection inked in November (MEES, 28 November 2025).
