Omani state offtaker Nama Power and Water Procurement (Nama PWP) signed three power purchase agreements (PPAs) with developers to renew 3.5GW of gas-fired power capacity for 15 years into the 2040s.
The deals extend the PPAs for the Sohar II and Barka III plants, with each providing 747MW between 2028 and 2043, and for the Sur I plant to provide 1.978GW between 2029 and 2044. This is part of Oman’s two-track strategy of developing renewable energy capacity while maintaining a solid baseload capacity of gas-fired generation (MEES. 27 February). Oman’s total gas-fired generation will jump from 9.8GW this year to 13.5GW in 2029 when the developers commission the under-construction 877MW Duqm and 1.7GW Misfah plants. (CONTINUED - 110 WORDS)
