Bahrain’s Electricity & Water Authority (EWA) is gearing up for construction of a $1.1bn independent water and power producer (IWPP) project that will give a big boost to its power generating capacity and restore a buffer to peak load.

The Al-Dur 2 plant is scheduled to add 1.524GW of generating capacity when fully operational in 2022, as well as 225,000 m3/d of desalination capacity, taking Bahrain’s grid-linked generating capacity to 5.45GW (see table). (CONTINUED - 813 WORDS)
