After a relative lull in hostilities in recent months, Syria’s nine-year old civil war once again thrust into the public eye as Turkey launched a large-scale offensive this week – the so-called ‘Operation Spring of Peace’ – against the largely Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in northern Syria.

As MEES went to press, territorial gains have so far proved marginal, but Turkish media reports some 300 “terrorists killed” in its campaign of “surgical airstrikes.” In reality a slew of footage has emerged showing considerable civilian casualties including many children. (CONTINUED - 1427 WORDS)
