US independent Kosmos and partner BP say they have a “super-major scale hydrocarbon province” offshore Mauritania and Senegal.

After the 2015 discovery of the Tortue field which straddles the two countries’ maritime border (MEES, 8 May 2015), five subsequent wells have all been successful. BP is fully funding drilling as part of a deal that saw it take 62% of Kosmos’ four key blocks offshore Mauritania and 32.5% of the two Senegal blocks (MEES, 23 December 2016). Kosmos with 28% remains exploration operator with BP to take over once development is sanctioned, a partnership model that the two companies recently agreed to extend to other Atlantic Margin geographies.
