The nine refineries operated by the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC) delivered almost 1.64mn b/d of refined products in the Iranian year from 21 March 2013 to 20 March 2014. This represents a capacity utilization rate of 88.1%. Diesel and gasoline together accounted for 60% of total output.

However, Iranian data submitted to JODI indicates Iran’s refineries produced an average 1.81mn b/d for the roughly similar April 2013-March 2014 period, up slightly from 1.80mn b/d for April 2012-March 2013. The 170,000 b/d discrepancy may be attributable to the inclusion of products from Iran’s petrochemical plants, which until recently have delivered to NIORDC some 120,000 b/d of gasoline and additives.
