Bijan Namdar Zanganeh, newly elected Iranian President Hassan Rohani’s choice for Minister of Petroleum has vowed to revive the country’s sanctions-hit oil sector and restore its oil production capacity to levels seen eight years ago, if his nomination is approved by parliament in the coming days.

Mr Zanganeh served as Minister of Electricity under former president Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani between 1989 and 1997, and Minister of Petroleum between 1997 and 2005 under reformist president Mohammad Khatami. (CONTINUED - 590 WORDS)
