The Enefit Jordan joint venture, led by Estonia’s Eesti Energia (Enefit), has this week received approval from Jordan’s Ministry of Environment to build an oil shale fired power plant in the Attarat umm Ghudrun region 110km southeast of ‘Amman.

The 500mw plant will start generating electricity for local consumption in 2017 and is expected to reduce Jordan’s expenditure on oil products imports for power generation by more than JD350mn ($490mn) a year, Enefit says. (CONTINUED - 353 WORDS)
