Facing a severe gas crunch, Egypt is managing a mere trickle of gas exports to Jordan: 90mn cfd, just 38% of contracted volumes. While Qatar recently agreed to transfer the equivalent of five LNG cargoes to Egypt this summer (MEES, 14 June), nearby Jordan has thus far failed to attract Qatar’s goodwill. And with hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees further pressuring Jordan’s limited resource base, the Hashemite Kingdom needs gas and is short on options.
