Jordanian Minister of Finance ‘Alai Batayna was in Cairo last weekend for talks with his Egyptian counterpart Usama Kamal to arrange for the resumption of gas exports to Jordan via the Arab Gas Pipeline (AGP). Egypt had temporarily halted gas exports to Jordan around mid-October, and Spain as a result of a rise in domestic demand.

Following the Cairo talks, Mr Batayna said that the Egyptian government agreed to send new quantities of gas to Jordan within the next two weeks should Egypt’s domestic energy situation improve. He added that the talks in Cairo centered on boosting the volume of gas, which so far this year had averaged 40mn cfd instead of the 220mn cfd as per the agreement signed in 2004 (MEES, 11 October 2010).
