Norwegian renewables specialist Scatec announced on 12 August that its 1.1GW Obelisk solar project in Egypt has reached full commercial operations. The milestone follows completion of its second phase.
The second phase added 564MW of solar capacity to the 561MW first phase, which entered commercial operation earlier this year alongside the project’s full 100MW/200MWh battery storage system (MEES, 8 May). The project, at Nag Hammadi in southern Egypt’s ‘Upper Egypt’ region, is expected to generate more than 3,000 GWh/year under a 25-year, US dollar-denominated PPA with Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company, Scatec said.
