Egypt’s gas consumption and power-sector demand rebounded sharply in April as Israeli pipeline imports recovered following the conflict-related March shutdown of the 22.4tcf Leviathan and 4.3tcf Karish fields (MEES, 22 May). Imports from Israel slumped to just 183mn cfd in March before recovering to 1.01bn cfd in April and 1.06bn cfd in May, according to data obtained by MEES.
Increased supply pushed total gas consumption up 7% month-on-month to 6.34bn cfd, according to Jodi data, the highest April level on record. Gas burn for power generation rose even faster, climbing 12% to 3.42bn cfd, also a record for the month. (CONTINUED - 182 WORDS)
