Chevron executives visited Damascus on 23 June to discuss converting an MoU covering offshore Syria into a binding exploration contract with the Syrian Petroleum Company (SPC). SPC revealed the acreage is Block 1 near Lebanon, while Block 3 remains under discussion with TotalEnergies, ConocoPhillips and QatarEnergy (MEES, 15 May).
Although Block 1 lies close to Lebanon, it is well north of Lebanese Blocks 8 and 9. Securing Chevron would represent a major boost for Syria’s upstream sector following preliminary agreements with ConocoPhillips and HKN (MEES, 12 June). (CONTINUED - 114 WORDS)
