TotalEnergies and Cairo are engaged in talks “over expanded gas exploration in the deep Herodotus Basin of the Western Mediterranean,” an Egyptian Petroleum Ministry statement said this week. The ministry said that an MoU will be signed in the near future, after Petroleum Minister Karim Badawi met with Total’s Egypt and Cyprus country manager Pascal Breant on 30 April.
In 2024, Total relinquished the North Ras Kanayis block in Egypt’s West Mediterranean region after it decided against drilling an exploration well (MEES, 12 July 2024).
