Iraq has successfully joined the Middle East’s solar movement, with the energization of a 250MW facility. TotalEnergies this week energized the first 250MW phase of its 1GW utility-scale solar project at Basra’s Ratawi oilfield. Energization is the final commissioning step, connecting installed solar capacity to the transmission grid to start exporting power.

The Ratawi plant consists of four 250MW phases and is a key component of the French major’s GGIP project (Gas Growth Integrated Project: Total 45%op, Basrah Oil 30%, QatarEnergy 25%). Total has delivered the first phase on schedule in Q1 after completing installation last month (MEES, 23 January). The solar project is delivered by Energy China (CEEC: China Energy Engineering Corporation) and is the largest solar plant under development in Iraq. (CONTINUED - 172 WORDS)
