Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) has awarded a KD467 ($1.51bn) ‘integrated production management’ contract to SLB for the next stages of the Mutriba field development in northwest Kuwait. Early commercial production began last September (MEES, 26 September 2025). Mutriba was first discovered in 1957 with the field’s petroleum system confirmed in 2009, but it is a technically challenging development featuring high H2S content of up to 40%, requiring specialized metallurgy and safety design, as well as varying well flow pressures. Mutriba is also located far from KOC’s existing infrastructure. Given its complex requirements, gas is currently piped to be processed at North Kuwait’s Jurassic production facilities.
