Kuwait’s power sector was afforded some much-needed relief in August at the tail-end of a difficult summer. Peak load of 17.42GW was not just down on the previous month’s record 17.71GW, it was also down on the previous August’s 17.64GW; the first year-on-year decline since March.
Kuwait has suffered a number of blackouts this year as its aging power fleet has been unable to meet demand, even while maxing imports through the GCC interconnection, and August’s reduced demand will have been politically welcome. Total generation of 10.36TWh was the highest this year, despite the lower peak load, up from 10.29TWh. That it remained down year-on-year is another reminder of Kuwait’s power generation struggles.
