A high-level Egyptian delegation including Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aty and Petroleum Minister Karim Badawi was in Nicosia on 5 September to meet Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides and Energy Minister George Papanastasiou, with gas a main topic. The two energy ministers then held additional talks days later at the Gastech conference in Milan on 10 September.
After years of delay, Cyprus is optimistic that it is finally ready to start producing gas from its offshore fields. Development plans for both the 3.1tcf Cronos (Eni 50%op, TotalEnergies50%) in Block 6 and the 3.5tcf Aphrodite (Chevron 35%op) envisage subsea pipeline tieback to Egypt (MEES, 21 February).
