OQ Alternative Energy (OQAE), the renewable energy arm of the Omani state energy firm, has signed an agreement to develop 1.1GW of wind power projects with Naqaa Sustainable Energy, an unknown and presumably new firm in Oman.

The plants will be across the areas of Duqm, Mahout, and Sadah, regions that were also the sites of projects listed under a request for proposals released in 2024 (MEES, 20 September 2024). Under the recently signed deal the firms will “utilize locally manufactured wind turbines from [local firm] Mawarid Turbine,” which is expecting its first 1GW/y factory to start operations in 2026.
