Baghdad and Ankara held their first round of talks on renewing the Iraq-Turkey Pipeline (ITP) treaty in Ankara on 17 November. Turkey earlier this year decided against renewing the existing treaty upon its expiry in July 2026 due to concerns over Iraq’s failure to meet minimum throughput commitments. Ankara also wants the option to use the pipeline for non-Iraq crudes (MEES, 25 July).
A statement from Iraq’s oil ministry said that the two sides “extensively discussed the proposed draft and pathways for developing cooperation in energy sector project.” Ankara had proposed an expansive energy framework which Iraqi officials previously said was “more comprehensive than the existing agreement, spanning cooperation in oil, gas, petrochemicals and electricity.” (CONTINUED - 177 WORDS)
