Abu Dhabi state renewables firm Masdar has broken ground on what it describes as the world’s largest combined solar PV and battery storage project. The $6bn facility aims to deliver 1GW of baseload renewable energy by 2027 and was launched in January (MEES, 17 January). It comprises of a 5.2GW solar PV plant, that will be coupled with a 19GWh battery energy storage system (BESS).
Masdar Chairman Sultan al-Jaber described the project as “breaking ground on the future,” during the 23 October ceremony. CEO Mohamed Jameel al-Ramahi says the landmark “represents a pivotal moment in clean energy transformation… by overcoming the challenge of intermittency, we can provide sustainable power to meet fast-growing demand from advancements in artificial intelligence and other technologies.” (CONTINUED - 119 WORDS)
