Nine years after it imported its first ever LNG cargo, Egypt has been forced to resort to importing the super-cooled fuel again as its natural gas deficit grows ahead of the peak summer demand season. Currently on the lookout to lease a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) ahead of the summer (MEES, 22 March), the 15 April cargo was imported via Jordan’s Energos Eskimo FSRU, moored at the Red Sea port of Aqaba.
With Jordan’s natural gas needs met by piped gas imports from Israel, the Energos Eskimo has remained idle, prompting Amman to cut a deal last year with Cairo for common use of the vessel (MEES, 16 June 2023). (CONTINUED - 813 WORDS)
