As Sudan’s bloody civil war enters its second year, each of its warring generals seems more adamant than ever to crush their rival and take control (MEES, 3 November 2023).

The current conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), led by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the rival paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), led by notorious commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (better known as “Hemedti”), broke out in the capital Khartoum on 15 April last year, before extending to the rest of the country.
