Norway’s Scatec, the big winner in Tunisia’s largest to-date solar project award, with 360MW of 500MW awarded in 2019 (MEES, 20 December 2019), has scrapped plans to develop two-thirds of this capacity.
“Since the fourth quarter 2022, Scatec has engaged with the Tunisian authorities to negotiate the PPA [power purchase agreement] tariff in order to improve the economics of the three solar projects awarded in 2019, totaling 360MW. Based on a review of the project portfolio and in close dialogue with the Tunisian government, Scatec has during the fourth quarter 2023 decided to discontinue development of 240MW. The remaining 120MW will continue to be developed based on more favorable project economics,” the firm says in its Q4 report. (CONTINUED - 291 WORDS)
