Sudan’s Armed Forces (SAF) claim to have the war-torn country’s top oil refinery “under siege” after launching a full-scale offensive to recapture key sites from the rival paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), who control of most of the capital Khartoum and the western Darfur region.

Video reports circulating on local and social media since 28 January show dozens of army vehicles and armed soldiers advancing towards the 100,000 b/d al-Jaili refinery, 70km north of the capital Khartoum.
