Kuwait’s power generation fleet has remained largely unchanged in recent years, with no meaningful expansion since 550MW was added in 2020 through the expansion of two existing power plants. Demand has grown rapidly since then, and is expected to grow further this year, but no additional capacity is expected to come online in 2024 (MEES, 22 September 2023).

Beyond this, a planned 900MW expansion of the 7GW Sabiya power plant could come online in 2025, though with the project’s contract yet to be finalized this is looking ever less likely.
