A gas-fired power plant recently installed by Iraqi state firm Dhi Qar Oil Company (DQOC) at the Petronas-operated 250,000 b/d capacity Gharaf oil field has malfunctioned and is only operating at partial capacity, MEES understands. The 71MW plant comprises of three dual fuel units, capable of operating on natural gas or diesel, supplied by US oilfields services firm Baker Hughes. But according to a DQOC source, only one unit is currently operational.
DQOC began trial operations at the plant on 19 August (MEES, 25 August) with plans for 5-10mn cfd of associated raw gas being fed from Gharaf – currently 60mn cfd of gas from the field is flared. As it stands, the sole operational turbine is running on approximately 400 liters per hour of diesel. (CONTINUED - 148 WORDS)
