Montfort announced on 15 August that its bunkering business will begin supplying very low sulfur fuel oils (VLSFO) at Fujairah from 20 August. The trading firm completed its purchase of Fujairah’s 67,000 b/d ‘Fort Energy’ refinery on 31 May through a consortium with the Private Office of Sheikh Ahmed Dalmook Al Maktoum.

The refinery processes heavy sweet crudes such as South Sudan’s Dar (26° API, 0.12% sulfur) and Nile Blend (33° API, 0.05% sulfur), as well as Chad’s Doba Blend (28° API, 0.07% sulfur) to produce VLSFO, but until now Montfort has been exporting the VLSFO rather than supplying locally.
