The Gulf Cooperation Council Interconnection Authority (GCCIA) aims to begin exporting electricity to southern Iraq by end-2024. The announcement was made during an 8 June ceremony in Saudi Arabia’s Dammam attended by electricity ministers from the GCC and Iraq alongside officials from the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development and Qatar Fund For Development – the two funds are providing key financing for the project.
In February construction contracts were signed with Saudi Arabia’s National Contracting Company, India’s Kalpataru, KEC, Turkey’s Çalık Enerji and Saudi-French company Cegelec Saudi (MEES, 10 February). (CONTINUED - 205 WORDS)
