Saudi Aramco is aiming to co-develop a 9mn t/y carbon capture and storage (CCS) hub at the Jubail industrial city by 2027, with Saudi Aramco’s share accounting for 6mn t/y of the total. Saudi Aramco announced the 9mn t/y target in November 2022 alongside its partners SLB (formerly Schlumberger) and Germany’s Linde (MEES, 18 November 2022).

The Saudi energy giant has now released more details on its CCS plans in its 2022 Sustainability Report. As well as stating that around 3mn t/y of carbon dioxide will be captured from other industry sources, the report adds that Aramco’s 6mn t/y will come from three nearby gas processing plants – the 2.5bn cfd Wasit, 2.5bn cfd Fadhili and 2.8bn cfd Khursaniyah facilities. This is in line with previous Aramco statements (MEES, 17 June 2022). (CONTINUED - 792 WORDS)
