To many in the Arab world, the prospect of Israel supplying Egypt with piped gas appeared wholly unrealistic up until the gas molecules started arriving in Egypt’s gas network. Three years on from the start of flows in January 2020, volumes have now soared to record levels, with Egypt importing an average of 607mn cfd for 2022, a 49% year on year increase, according to Jodi data. And the last two months of 2022 saw the highest ever monthly figures including a record 838mn cfd for December (see chart).
