The China Energy Engineering Corporation, also known as Energy China has added to the slew of green hydrogen MoUs signed by Egypt last year (MEES, 11 November 2022). During Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly’s visit to the Belt and Road forum in Beijing last month Energy China and the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) inked a framework agreement that would see the Chinese state firm invest $6.75bn to build a 210,000 t/y green hydrogen facility which in turn would produce 1.2mn t/y of green ammonia in the Suez Canal Zone.
None of the proposed Egypt green hydrogen facilities, all at Ain Sukhna, have moved forward. The most advanced, a 100MW facility led by Norway’s Scatec had previously targeted FID by end-2023 but this seems to now have been pushed back indefinitely (MEES, 10 November). (CONTINUED - 205 WORDS)
