Oman state firm OQ on 28 December signed a project development agreement with regional counterparts Sabic of Saudi Arabia and Kuwait Petroleum International (KPI) for a petrochemical complex in the Special Economic Zone at Duqm (Sezad). The complex will consist of a steam cracker, derivative units and a natural gas liquid extraction facility.

No further details on dates or specifics have been given yet, but the agreement will allow the partners to collaborate and undergo studies to “make the project globally competitive and profitable for all partners.” It marks the newest petrochemical project for the sultanate’s downstream sector since the commissioning of the 1.1mn t/y Liwa Plastics projec t(MEES, 17 December 2021)..
