*Egypt’s fuel oil burn is back. From an average of little more than 20,000 b/d for 2020 and the first half of 2021 the country’s fuel oil consumption has leapt to average 105,000 b/d for the first four months of 2022, the highest level since 2018. After rising to a 44-month high 119,000 b/d for February, fuel oil burn dropped to 89,000 b/d for March but rebounded to 108,000 b/d for April, according to Jodi data (see chart 1). Surging fuel oil consumption was also the key reason that Egypt’s overall oil demand was up 22% year-on-year at a 4-year high 752,000 b/d for 4M 2022.
