Iran’s minister of energy Ali Akbar Mehrabian told official press agency IRNA on 31 March that his country expects a 15GW gap between power production and consumption this summer, up from 10-12GW last summer. Iran’s powergen outlook is worsening as the government struggles to invest funds on maintenance, while last summer’s drought greatly reduced hydropower capacity from its nameplate 13.2GW – 15.5% of total nameplate 85GW capacity.
