Saudi Arabia has made five new gas discoveries located across the country, says Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman. None of the discoveries look set to move the needle when it comes to adding to Saudi Arabia’s overall hydrocarbons output, but they can contribute to efforts to displace liquids from the power sector (MEES. 14 January).

Most of the discoveries were made in the eastern and central regions of Saudi Arabia, but one was made in northern Saudi Arabia near the Iraqi border in a region where the kingdom has made a number of discoveries in recent years (MEES, 8 January 2021).
