Cairo has added to its string of green hydrogen MoUs (MEES, 18 November), adding seven more on 7 December.

Though BP is the most eye-catching addition, France’s Voltalia together with Egypt’s Taqa Arabia (a subsidiary of local conglomerate Qalaa) is the only firm to give any numbers. Voltalia envisages a first phase producing 15,000 t/y of green hydrogen from a 100MW electrolyzer powered by 283MW of renewable energy, at a new site near Ain Sokhna within Egypt’s Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone), site of all of Egypt’s planned green hydrogen projects.
