Israeli firm NewMed, a key partner at the country’s giant Leviathan field (MEES, 9 December), announced on 6 December that it has been awarded the giant 33,812km² Boujdour Atlantique block “off the coast of Morocco.”

Except the block is actually off Western Sahara, a territory to the south of Morocco which has since the 1970s been largely occupied by Rabat but whose claim has only limited international recognition. (CONTINUED - 295 WORDS)
