After years of upstream stasis, 2022 is shaping up to be something of a turnaround for Algeria’s Sonatrach which continues to revive and push ahead with new projects.

Sonatrach on 29 September officially awarded a $300mn EPC contract to a new consortium consisting of UK engineering firm Petrofac and Sonatrach subsidiary GCB for the development of Tinhert Phase-2 which aims to tie in modestly sized Illizi basin discoveries to the Alrar field’s 25mn m³/day (9.1bcm/y) processing facilities (see map).
