Korea, the world’s number three LNG importer, paid a record average of $29.19/mn BTU for September-arrival cargoes. Australia, with 0.96mn tons at an average price of $31.82/mn BTU, remained top supplier for the fifth straight month ahead of Qatar with 0.86mn tons at $18.17/mn BTU (see table). With Australia on 8.47mn tons for 9M 2022 versus 7.22mn tons for Qatar, the emirate is set to be usurped as Korea’s top supplier for the first time since 1998, Qatar’s first full year of LNG exports (when Malaysia was top).
