Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) has set a new target for the Bahra oilfield in North Kuwait. According to sources quoted in local daily al-Qabas “new formations have been discovered” in the field, prompting the Kuwaiti NOC to raise the production target from the current output level of 40,000 b/d to 100,000 b/d. No timelines for when the new target will be reached were disclosed but the daily adds that KOC had “commissioned the first water injection well in Bahra.” Reservoirs in Kuwait are increasingly maturing resulting in ever-more spending on EOR and other expensive interventions (MEES, 22 July). Bahra saw Kuwait’s first oil well drilled in 1936.
